Pihla Jaala is a social worker and dancer from Finland, currently studying at University of Music and Performing Arts in MA CoDE program. She completed a Master`s degree of Social Sciences in social work at University of Eastern Finland 2020.
Jaala enrolled to North Carelia Education Consortium Outokumpu, Vocational Qualification in Dance 2021. In guidance of teachers Katariina Vähäkallio, Ulla Päivikkö and Katja Mustonen, she got introduced to contemporary dance. Education focused on variety of practices such as contact improvisation, performing practices, somatic practices and anatomy.
From the studies at MA CoDE Jaala seeks international interdiciplinary collaborations. Her interest is in crafting sustainable attendable communities to explore with body and movement in artistic processes. This, she experiences also in ongoing work with the interdisciplinery collective Väkivä (found 2022) based in Jyväskylä Finland. With art and with pedagogical work Jaala addresses questions, themes, ideas, stories and always explore the surrounding reality, coexisting and questions the structures we have built for ourselves.
