The Master's programme is scientifically oriented: Music pedagogical theory formation and practical fields as well as approaches of empirical social research are increasingly interconnected in the course of four semesters. In the third and fourth semesters, focal points with music-psychological, -sociological and educational-scientific contents can be individually selected.

Empirical research methods for your own scientific work

The aim of all areas of study and elective specialisations is to enable students to carry out independent scientific work and to apply empirical research methods. You will learn to deal with the diverse basic knowledge from the related disciplines (sociology of music, psychology of learning and development and educational sciences) and with the interdisciplinary character of the subject of music education.

You will be in exchange with students and teachers from music, theatre and dance at the HfMDK and gain new perspectives in an immediate way.

Diverse career paths

Graduates of the Master's programme are able to take up current specialist topics, discuss them scientifically, develop them further and participate in the relevant specialist discourses. Thus, the Master's degree qualifies students in particular for professional work in academic music education – among other things for a doctorate, which is also possible at the HfMDK. Diverse career paths also open up in reflective music mediating activities in broadcasting or publishing, in the planning and implementation of music education projects as well as in educational and cultural policy activities.
