Body and movement as the resonating space of a new, bold, poetic aesthetic - combining practice and theory in a social context: understood in this way, dance becomes an event and field of action.

In the Bachelor of Dance degree programme, or BAtanz, we provide individual and comprehensive support by teaching a wide range of ballet and contemporary dance techniques. Students learn to help shape artistic work processes and to reflect on themselves and their own art form in order to discuss and creatively use dance, movement and the body in an interdisciplinary, historical and social context.

The promotion of the individual, artistic profile is also essential in the degree programme. You will gain stage experience from the very first semester - made possible by performance series and projects in Frankfurt theaters and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, as well as through guest performances, supported by international guest lecturers. During the course of your studies, we encourage you to develop social and cultural-political commitment and to enrich the dance scene with your ideas.

You can definitely take on something academically: The department includes a professorship for dance theory, which provides important impulses for research at the university of the arts.

Interdisciplinary, international network

Whoever studies BAtanz studies within a network of performative arts. At the HfMDK there are interdisciplinary connections in all directions (acting, voice, directing, music), In many cases, it is also our students themselves who initiate interdisciplinary projects and pursue their own artistic concepts - accompanied by the HfMDK project fund KunstPAKT, among others. In addition, we are very active externally, cooperating with numerous institutions, theatres and companies at home and abroad, such as the Hessian Theatre Academy (HTA), the Dance Platform Rhine-Main, the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA), the Dance Training Conference and the Young Talent Festival.

BAtanz cooperates with the Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE) master's programme at the HfMDK and the Choreography and Performance (MA CuP) master's programme at the Justus Liebig University Giessen.
